Suggested Restaurants in Dublin

This is a list of suggested restaurants and coffee shops in the Dublin city centre area.

All of these restaurants are located in the city centre (Dublin 1 or Dublin 2), but places within a 5 minute walk of Trinity College are marked with "TCD".

Quick Lunch

Lemon (60 Dawson Street). Lemon serves up reliable and affordable crepes (both sweet and savoury). The Vegetarian Power Plus Crepe is highly recommended! TCD

Avoca Cafe (11 Suffolk Street, Dublin 2) In the basement of the Avoca shop, this cafe has a good selection of sandwiches and salads and emphasizes Irish products. A great place to buy gifts, too! TCD

Cafe en Seine (39 Dawson Dawson Street). This massive bar/restaurant is a nightclub in the evenings, but during the day is a beautiful place to have a quick sandwich. TCD

KC Peaches (2829 Nassau Street). A lovely deli/cafe with a wide selection of salads and sandwiches. Also has excellent pastries for breakfast and good coffee. TCD

Irish/Pub Grub

Gallagher’s “Boxty” House (20-21 Temple Bar, Dublin 2) This restaurant is located in the Temple Bar area of Dublin and caters largely to tourists, but in a good way. They serve "boxtys" - traditional potato pancakes filled with delicious things. They also serve other classic "Irish" dishes and there is often live music.

The Bull and Castle (Christ Church, Dublin 2 - just across the street from Christ Church Cathedral). Excellent, slightly-upscale pub grub. Lots of locally sourced products and a wonderful selection of beers from smaller breweries around Ireland.

Leo Burdock’s (2 Werburgh Street, Dublin 8) Dublin's most famous "chipper". Boasts an illustrious list of past visitors!

The Porterhouse (2 locations: 16-18 Parliament St., Temple Bar, Dublin 2 & 45-47 Nassau St., Dublin 2) Nice pub grub and they brew they own. Try the Oyster Stout!

“Modern European”

101 Talbot (101-102 Talbot St, Dublin 1, (01) 8745011) A hidden gem on Dublin's "northside". Mediterranean influenced cuisine with an Irish twist.

Chapter One (18-19 Parnell Sq., Dublin 1) Located on Parnell Square next to the Dublin Writer's Museum, Chapter One is one of Dublin's premier restaurants (with a price tag to match). French-inspired modern Irish cuisine.

Eden (Meeting House Sq., Dublin 2) Trendy, stylish and simplistic, Eden epitomizes Dublin's Celtic Tiger. Located on Meeting House Square in Temple Bar next to Irish Film Institute and Photography Gallery.

The Winding Stair (40 Ormond Quay, Dublin 1)The ground floor is an excellent bookshop, and the upstairs is an excellent cafe serving creative "modern Irish" cuisine.

French

Chez Max (1 Palace St., Dublin 2) A favorite among Dubliners. Located just outside the gates of Dublin Castle, Chez Max attempts to bring the French Bistro to Dublin, complete with frogs legs and pigeon.

L’Gueuleton (1 Fade St., Dublin 2) An excellent spot for lunch. Excellent French fare at a good value.

Le Bon Crubeen (81-82 Talbot St., Dublin 1) Also located on Dublin's northside, this restaurant began winning awards as soon as it opened. Excellent casual dining and great prices.

Italian

Dunne and Crescenzi (14/16 South Frederick St., Dublin 2) One of the most popular restaurants in Dublin. Good, solid Italian food at a reasonable price. TCD

Vegetarian

Govinda’s (83 Middle Abbey St., Dublin 1) This Hare Krishna run vegetarian restaurant offers a range of hot dishes each day (usually pasta bakes, rice based dishes, paneer and spinach, etc.). A "large plate" is more than enough for two and costs about €12.

Cornucopia (19 Wicklow St., Dublin 2) TCD Dublin's classic vegetarian restaurant. Soups, salads, hot dishes, desserts, coffees, teas and a comfortable atmosphere. There's a reason it's been open since 1986!

Blazing Salads (42 Drury St., Dublin 2) Small cafe specializing in take-away salads. Delicious vegan desserts.

Indian

Sagaar (16 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2) Located in a basement along Harcourt Street, Sagaar serves reasonably priced and consistently delicious food.

Medina (60 Mary St., Dublin 1) A favourite among Dubliners!

Moroccan

El Bahia (37 Wicklow St., Dublin 2) An excellent and unique restaurant for Dublin. Serves fantastic tajines (among other things) in cozy restaurant just off of Grafton Street.

Thai

Wagamama (4 South King Street, Dublin 2) This is more of an “Asian fusion" place and it has a range of menu items, all of which are delicious. Lots of vegetarian options.

Japanese

Yamamori (38-39 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1 and South Great George's Street, Dublin 2) Dublin's favorite place for sushi.

Chinese and Korean

Parnell Street is the closest thing Dublin has to a “Chinatown”.

This area has dozens of excellent (and fairly cheap) options for both Chinese and Korean cuisine. We highly recommend Charming Noodles and the Hop House (160 Parnell Street, Dublin 1)

Breakfast/Bakery

Keogh’s (1-2 Trinity Street, Dublin 2) Excellent scones!

Cornucopia (19 Wicklow St., Dublin 2)

Queen of Tarts (Cows Lane and Dame St., Dublin 2) A wonderful cafe with a great atmosphere and excellent food. In addition to filling and freshly baked breakfasts, also has delicious tarts, soups and salads for lunch.
